BEI Weekly Update — 5th February 2021

Dear Members and Friends,

It is normal and understandable that in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic people are experiencing mental health related issues. Stress, worry and other issues are normal responses during these times of uncertainty. I would recommend some guidance from the NHS as well as other experts. The pandemic has resulted in significant changes to our lives it is important to look after our mental health as well as our physical well-being.

This week I had a delightful meeting with the UK’s new Trade Commissioner for Latin America and the Caribbean Jonathan Knott CMG, whose role is leading the UK government’s work to boost trade and investment between the UK and Latin America and the Caribbean. He spoke of his keen interest in carrying on the great work and progress being made by his team. We both agreed on the need to find additional ways to encourage and support UK companies, assess and pursue opportunities this region has to offer.

As part of our BEI 2020 Awards Series, this week we hosted an event focusing on Latest Innovations in Climate Resilience, Climate Monitoring & Disease Control. It was amazing to hear from our members HR Wallingford, Resurgence and Mott MacDonald about their great scientific and technological innovations to address emerging issues and making a difference around the world.

Future event highlights…

On 11th February, join us for a panel discussion on the experiences and lessons learned on Working with Government Clients Internationally and how these relationships can be leveraged to enable and support sustainable development, and how to make them work for the entire stakeholder network.

On 16th February, we are excited to be hosting a UK Trade Mission Scoping Event on Tajikistan — Join us in partnership with the Tajikistan Embassy in the UK and the Tajik-British Chamber of Commerce to get a briefing on current export and investment opportunities in Tajikistan as well as an overview of the political and economic situation.
