Join us for a presentation on the recently published UK strategy on safeguarding against sexual exploitation and abuse and sexual harassment within the aid sector. The presentation will be led Peter Taylor Head of the SafeguardingUnit at FCDO. It is important that the aid sector acts now to drive up standards as a collective responsibility for everyone. The UK government strategy sets out commitments across all government departments which engage in delivering Official Development Assistance (ODA).
In the Foreword of the strategy document, FCDO Permanent Secretary Philip Barton wrote, “Sexual exploitation and abuse and sexual harassment in any organisation is completely unacceptable, particularly in a sector which aims to help some of the most vulnerable people in the world. ODA must be delivered in a way that does no harm. Sexual exploitation and abuse and sexual harassment undermines the aid sector as a whole and limits our ability to deliver positive change.”
Safeguarding against sexual exploitation and abuse and sexual harassment is a long-term challenge and one the development sector is leading the fight against. There has been some progress following the October2018 Safeguarding Summit, but more needs to be done
