Join us for our next Trade Envoy Roundtable where we will be joined by Rushanara Ali MP the UK’s Trade Envoy to Bangladesh. As South Asia’s growing political, economic and strategic significance makes it ever more relevant to the UK’s prosperity and security interests, Bangladesh as an export market is becoming increasingly important for UK plc.
InFebruary 2021 The UK and Bangladesh agreed to develop a future trade partnership that will increase mutual prosperity and further Bangladesh’s economic development as it graduates from Least Developed Country status. This will help further develop the UK's total imports from Bangladesh which more than doubled between 2009 and 2019, during which time the country achieved an average growth rate of 6.6% and extreme poverty rates more than halved from1991 to 2016-17.
However, as with many countries Bangladesh's mass vaccination timeline has stretched to end-2023, containment measures will still weigh on the country's economic growth and ready-made garment exports in 2021/22.
We have organised this latest in a series of “members only” private round-table webinars to give members the opportunity to engage with Trade Envoys in a closed roundtable discussion. The event format enables members to brief the TradeEnvoys on some of their current priorities in the specific countries/region, the ease of doing business and some of the challenges encountered. The Trade Envoy will also share their insights and experiences on their markets of responsibility, including key opportunities and potential G2G engagement plans which may be of interest.
