Freight activity is surging globally and is expected to more than double in the next three decades, making it an important sector to decarbonise. Although road freight trucks constitute a small share of the transport fleet, they contribute a disproportionately larger share of total transport emissions; 22% of total transport emissions. Thus, there is a critical need for accelerated adoption of ZE MHGVs to have a meaningful impact on global decarbonisation efforts.
Latin America hosts key players in the global road freight market, while also being one of the most vulnerable regions to climate change. Latin America is particularly vulnerable to climate change impacts, while only contributing to 8.4% of global CO2 emissions. It has been recorded that climate change related events have affected more than 152 million inhabitants of the region between 2000 and 2019. The global average share of transport sector related GHG emissions when compared to total emissions is 22%, while in Latin America, the transport sector's GHG emissions account for 35% of total emissions. Therefore, decarbonising road freight becomes very relevant for the region.
Join us as we delve into the current challenges and opportunities for decarbonising road freight globally, with a focus on the Latin American region. We will explore solutions and decarbonisation roadmaps in Latin American countries and the potential for UK stakeholders to collaborate and transfer knowledge, experiences and capacities to contribute to the decarbonisation of road freight in the region. Don't miss this important discussion on the future of road freight and the role we can all play in achieving sustainable transportation systems.
