British Expertise International continues its engagement on water risk with a virtual panel, organised in partnership with Arup, where our panel will explore how cities can leverage risk assessment, insurance solutions and climate finance to build water resilience in urban areas.
Adaptation finance for the water sector remains minimal compared to the level of need. Through practical examples and tools, our speakers will aim to help UK organisations better understand the conditions for creating investment-ready environments which reduce climate risk and unlock funding for vital urban water infrastructure.
Arup and Resilient Cities Network will kick off by introducing urban water resilience challenges, with case studies from Lagos and Cape Town demonstrating how inclusive risk assessments inform resilience planning. Fathom will move onto how robust flood modelling and risk data enable insurers and cities to better understand, price and manage climate risks, ultimately unlocking finance and catalysing action on resilient infrastructure.
Pegasys will demonstrate how public-private collaboration, underpinned by strategic risk assessment, can attract climate finance to urban water systems, before Climate Sense conclude by taking a closer look at how adaptive capacity can be measured and developed at a systemic level to help delivery, reduce risks and encourage investment.
With the gap between global adaptation investment and water sector needs showing few signs of narrowing, the demand for ways to drive finance towards water resilience projects and reduce water risk continues to be a pressing one – this session will seek to provide practical insights on how it may be met.
