As part of the engagements around the annual Education World Forum, British Expertise International will host an in-person event on the 9th May from 10:45 – 12:15 marking the launch of FCDO’s new programme on ‘Promoting Women and Girls Education in ASEAN’ and the FCDO’s plans for the UK-ASEAN partnership going forward, as the UK became the ASEAN’s newest Dialogue Partner in 2021.
During the first part of the session, Ian Attfield, Senior Education Adviser from the FCDO, will update members on the latest programme ‘Promoting Women and Girls Education in the ASEAN’. The programme aims to improve foundational learning outcomes for marginalised girls, women and disadvantaged groups in South East Asia with enhanced education and skills training systems.
During the second part of the session, Anila Khan, Socio-cultural Counsellor, will provide an overview of the activities of the UK Mission to the ASEAN, focusing on the partnership and new suite of programmes being developed to deepen the cooperation between the two regions.
Over the past four decades, the UK and ASEAN member states (namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam) have been working together to promote economic growth, peace and stability in South East Asia. In the current ASEAN - UK Dialogue Partnership Plan of Action, the partnership between the UK and ASEAN is becoming increasingly focused on the enhancement of trade and investment, socio-cultural co-operation and strengthening political and security ties.

10:45 - 11:15 - arrival over tea and coffee
