As climate impacts intensify, the world is simultaneously facing rising levels of fragility, conflict, and geopolitical instability. From Sudan to Palestine, conflicts are becoming more complex and protracted. This session will explore how current geopolitical dynamics are shaping (and constraining) climate action in fragile contexts and share practical, experience-based recommendations for designing and delivering climate interventions in complex, high-risk environments, grounded in new evidence.
Our panellist will explore the distinct roles and comparative advantages of different actors - including INGOs, donors, and private sector stakeholders - in advancing climate resilience in Fragile and Conflict-Afflicted States (FCAS), and the opportunities and challenges around mobilising capital for social impact, climate-resilient infrastructure, and transition-aligned sectors. We will also discuss the importance of involving local communities and infrastructure to achieve sustainable change and highlight opportunities for more coordinated, conflict-sensitive, and locally led approaches to climate action.
