Nature-based Solutions is increasingly becoming a prominent tool for combatting the wide-ranging effects of climate change. As Sir David Attenborough said at CoP26, “Nature is a key ally. Whenever we restore the wild, it will recapture carbon and help us bring back balance to our planet”. However, the concept is yet to fully break into mainstream consideration amongst international policy makers and public sector stakeholders. As the baked in effects of climate change become more intense, it is critical that stakeholders from across the climate space have a full understanding and insight into the important role that NbS can play. Following on from the publication by the BEI NbS Working Group’s first report, the Working Group is now delighted to deliver their first event.
Whilst the findings of the most recent IPCC report were stark, forecasting an acceleration of climate change on current trajectories, there remain multiple solutions to mitigate and adapt to some of the most damming effects. Central to this was Nature-based Solutions, which was mentioned over 450 times in the report. This event will break down the concept of NbS, showcase UK organisations application of NbS domestically and internationally and provide key insights into how nature is being harnessed to provide increasingly popular solutions to the climate crisis.
We will be joined by members of the BEI Nature-based Solutions Working Group, including Emma Davies (Palladium), Charles Reeve (Tetra Tech) and Jenny Mant (Ricardo), who will be providing attendees with the latest insights about the potential that lies in harnessing the power of nature in the fight against climate change. The opportunities that lie in Nature-based Solutions for business and climate resilience are slowly becoming more apparent in mainstream discourse and will showcase the latest thinking of the Working Group. Alongside this, members will also provide practical case studies about the power and relevance of NbS as a topic for both the public and private sector.
