Join us on 15th February 2022 from 10:00-11:30AM GMT for the latest in our Deep Dive Series as we turn our focus to Morocco.
We are delighted to be hosting HE Simon Martin CMG, the British Ambassador to Morocco, who will give his insight into the political landscape and a brief economic overview. We are also welcoming the in country DIT Team including Chris Woodward, the DIT County Director and DIT Education leads, who will focus on the specific pipeline of opportunities for UK business in their respective sectors.
As a result of the trade deal that was recently ratified between Morocco & the UK anew direct cargo route connecting the two nations has been created. This opens new and varied opportunities for UK businesses exporting to or looking at establishing a base in Morocco.
Despite being seen in the past as a francophone country, Morocco’s young population and increasing adoption of the English language only strengthens the case for more UK based education providers to enter into the Moroccan market. Already the second largest African sender of international students to the UK, a recent British Council report has highlighted several issues in higher education and gaps in the market that UK companies are well equipped to address, such as students’ foreign language competency and soft skills development.
Morocco’s relatively strong governance and regulatory frameworks of infrastructure projects will allow for further investment in high quality infrastructure. With new motorways, roads, railways, ports and airport upgrades planned under Morocco’s transport and infrastructure strategy there are many opportunities for UK expertise to lead the way in broader UK investment into the country.
Outside of Education and Infrastructure, specific sectors of interest for UK business to invest in in Morocco include, energy (both hydrocarbons and renewables), and financial and professional services. There is also potential in Morocco's defense, creative industries, healthcare and mining sectors.
