Francophone Africa has traditionally been considered challenging for UK investors, but that is rapidly changing. We are delighted to be joined by our Ambassadors from Senegal, Cote D’Ivoire, Guinea and Mauritania as they share their insights into opportunities for British companies in the region as well as providing political and economic updates on their respective countries and the region.
Experiencing growth rates second only to the East Africa region and seen as a gateway into the Central African Monetary Union Economic Area, Francophone Africa is becoming increasingly attractive for UK investment.
Cote D’Ivoire is the region’s economic hub and prior to the pandemic had one of Africa’s most robust economies. While that was largely built on the infrastructure sector and public investment, the manufacturing sector, services, and exports are expected to support the economic turnaround in 2021 and beyond.
Senegal is one of the Africa’s most politically stable countries and despite growth falling in 2020, it is expected to bounce back on and grow on the back of its services and agriculture sectors.
The Guinean economy has been resilient despite the pandemic, with GDP growth of 5.2% in2020, driven by growth in the mining sector. Future growth potential is forecast, driven by increased infrastructure investment and the new450-megawatt Souapiti Dam.
