Fiona Blyth MBE was appointed British Ambassador to Mongolia in 2023. She has held roles in the UK Mission to the United Nations in New York and in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO)’s European Counter Terrorism department in London. Prior to joining FCDO, she served in the British Army in Afghanistan and Northern Ireland and worked for the United Nations in Somalia. She also worked in New York for the International Peace Institute, focusing on UN peacekeeping and peacebuilding in Africa. Most recently, Fiona held a range of Cabinet Office positions including as a Principal Analyst (Middle East) and as Deputy Head of the Russia/Ukraine Team in the National Security Secretariat.
Tajikistan:
Katherine Smitton was appointed British Ambassador to the Republic of Tajikistan in in October 2024. Before this Katherine was Deputy Head of Mission in Algiers. Katherine’s previous overseas postings have included Deputy Head of Mission in Nepal and leading the UK’s Counter Terrorism work in Pakistan. At the FCDO in London, Katherine has been Deputy Head of Eastern Europe and Central Asia Department and has worked on the Near East and Levant.
Kyrgyzstan:
Nicholas Bowler was appointed British Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic in 2023. Prior to this, he held the position of Head of UK Programmes in Ukraine between 2020-2023. He has held multiple positions across government including the Deputy and Acting Development Director for Central Asia at DFID between 2015-2017. Prior to this he has experience in governance and programme management for our members Tetra Tech and Palladium.
Turkmenistan:
Stephen Conlon was appointed His Majesty’s Ambassador to Turkmenistan in May 2023. Prior to this, he studied Russian language full time. Stephen started his career in 1999 as the Desk Officer in the Economic Policy Department in the FCO. Since then, he has worked in various positions, including at the UK’s Permanent Representation to the European Union. Before his appointment to Ashgabat, he was Head of European Parliament Team, at the UK Mission to the EU in Brussels from 2020 to 2022.
