British Expertise is delighted to announce we will be hosting a Market Opportunity Overview on Uganda with the Department of International Trade in Uganda!
From the period 2021 – 2022, trade between the UK and Uganda increased by 40.7%, with this increase expected to grow in the coming period. Uganda was tipped by the Centre of International Development at Harvard University to be one of the fastest growing economies to 2025, with over 100 UK companies already operating there.
Uganda is solidifying itself as a viable trade partnership, coupled with a young educated population, regional integration recently enhanced by the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement and a growing market size. Uganda is also a beneficiary of the UK’s focus on Africa infrastructure investment, as it is being seen as crucial for the continent’s continued economic development, with UKEF doubling its export credit for Uganda over the last couple years. Among this, UKEF has provided its largest ever loan to an African government – to aid support construction of a runway, taxiway and cargo terminal – showcasing the growing ties between the two countries. This project itself will also underpin a number of other large scale infrastructure and energy projects planned in the area.
This comes in light of the Growth Gateway, UK-Africa Trade & Investment service, which has further aided UK companies with doing business with Uganda.
This session will cover not only opportunities in infrastructure and energy but also education and TVET, for a whole market view. Some of the challenges in education in Uganda stem from having one of the most ethnically diverse populations in the world spanning across the country, with 24 different ethnic groups speaking more than 40 languages.
Most recently in 2018, the Uganda National Teacher Policy was successfully launched to develop teachers and now there is room to build upon this. Uganda has a centralised administration of the education system, aiding the ease of doing business for education related programmes. Uganda’s educational system has expanded remarkably over the last few decades, but access and quality issues remain. We will hear about the education landscape, the overview of education priorities in the country and the upcoming pipeline of opportunities.
Join us for this session, as we explore a realm of possibilities within Uganda and learn from experts where the opportunities for UK – Uganda collaboration lie.
