We are delighted to be hosting a lunch meeting with His Excellency Mr Hoang Long Nguyen, Vietnam's Ambassador to the UK since June 2021. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in 1999, rose through the MFA's European Department and became its Deputy Director-General in 2008. He has also previously worked on APEC affairs. He was appointed Ambassador to Italy in 2012 and returned to Vietnam in 2015, where he joined the MFA's Department for Foreign Affairs for the Provinces, which he headed as Director-General from 2016.
With a growing economy, Vietnam offers some great opportunities for UK businesses in a wide range of sectors.The country has a large, young population and a growing middle class. Vietnam achieved 2.8% growth in 2020,following 7% in 2019 (World Bank, 2021) and is on track to bounce back strongly following the negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Some of the sectors of opportunities identified include education, technology, infrastructure, and healthcare. Vietnam’s trade has almost quadrupled over the last decade and indications are this growth will continue.
