Join us online on 5th June from 10:30 – 12:00 for a webinar on the “Intersection of Climate Change and Social Security”. Our speakers from Development Pathways, Cowater International & Oxford Policy Management will examine the critical role of social security systems in addressing climate change vulnerabilities.
Recent IPCC reports show that 3.3 to 3.6 billion people are highly vulnerable to climate impacts, with developing countries most at risk. Effective social security can reduce underlying vulnerabilities by providing regular income support, enabling resilience, and helping communities adapt to climate shocks.
This event will explore how comprehensive social security mechanisms can mitigate climate risks, bringing together experts to examine strategies for building resilient community systems. Our speakers will share best-practice in designing climate shock-responsive social protection systems and explore the ways in which adaptive social protection approaches can generate actionable insights into supporting vulnerable populations in an era of increasing environmental and economic uncertainties.
Our panel will tackle the question of how companies can best work with CSOs, other partners in the international development sphere, and governments at all levels to introduce these tools to adapt to climate change. Speakers will also provide insights into possible opportunities for tapping into climate finance for social security programmes, whilst strengthening government systems.
