Join us for an evening reception and learning panel discussion to commemorate the International Day of the Girl. We will be joined by Alicia Herbert OBE, FCDO Director of Education, Gender and Equalities and the UK’s Special Envoy for Gender Equality, as well as colleagues from the Girls’ Education Challenge (GEC). We will discuss the role played by Women’s Rights Organisations (WRO’s) within the GEC and will celebrate the partnership’s impact on girls’ education.
Colleagues from GEC will share recent learning around promoting gender equality via collaboration with WRO’s. This will include insights into how the GEC contributed to gender equality and social inclusion, how it reached the most marginalised, and what it has learnt about feminist partnerships. Colleagues from partner organisations implementing the GEC in Kenya and Zimbabwe will contribute to the debate via short videos as well as participation in the Q&A, to help us understand why grassroots women’s rights organisations are so valuable within the girls’ education space.
Alicia Herbert OBE is the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) Director of Education, Gender and Equalities and the UK’s Special Envoy for Gender Equality. Previously Alicia worked in academia, the World Bank and represented the UK government in senior roles in Mozambique, Sudan and Nigeria. Over the past 25 years, she has played a leading role in shaping international development policy and driving programme delivery and policy reform in countries across Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
