India is facing growing pressure on its water systems due to a combination of climate change, rapid urbanisation and increasing demand. Extreme weather events such as floods, droughts and heatwaves are becoming more frequent, while challenges like groundwater depletion, pollution and ageing infrastructure are making water resilience a national priority.
This presents a significant opportunity for UK companies with expertise in water management, climate resilience and sustainable infrastructure. British firms are well placed to support India’s ambitions through solutions such as smart water metering, flood forecasting systems, wastewater treatment technologies and integrated catchment management. There is also growing interest in nature-based solutions, digital platforms for water governance and public-private partnerships that can help scale innovation.
The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) will provide an overview of how the water sector operates in India, including the key institutions, policy, regulatory frameworks, investment opportunities and the interlinkages between water sector and Adaptation & Resilience agenda. The session will also highlight where UK expertise can support India’s efforts to strengthen water resilience, from smart infrastructure to digital tools and policy advisory.
The International Centre for Sustainability (ICFS) will present insights from its upcoming report on water security in India. The report explores the risks to water availability and quality, and outlines opportunities for international collaboration to support long-term resilience and sustainable development.
This session is part of a wider programme to help UK businesses understand the Indian market and connect with partners in areas of shared strategic interest. Join us to explore the opportunities in India’s water sector and how UK capabilities can contribute to building a more resilient future.
