In conversation with the Head of Education, Youth and Sports at the ASEAN Secretariat

Join us on 11^th May for an in-person session with Dr. Roger Yap Chao Jr, Head of Education, Youth and Sports at the ASEAN Secretariat.

Roger will be giving an overview of the ASEAN Work Plan on Education 2021-2025, and highlighting recent developments and policy directions namely (but not only): Reopen, Recover and Resilience in Education focusing on:

- Guidelines for ASEAN Countries;

- Declaration on Digital Transformation of Education Systems in ASEAN;

- The Roadmap on the ASEAN Higher Education Space; and

- The ASEAN TVET Council Work Plan.

His session will focus mostly on developments in Early Childhood Education and Care, TVET and Higher Education. During the Q&A session, Roger will also be open to answering questions across all education sub-sectors and relevant cross-sectoral themes.

Dr. Roger Chao Jr. is currently Asst. Director/Head of Education, Youth and Sports at the ASEAN Secretariat. Since 2013, he has been engaged in the international education development sector in various capacities in various organizations including UNESCO, UNICEF, the European Commission, DAAD and the British Council. Dr. Chao has published in commissioned international reports, academic journals and edited volumes, and international media on regionalization and internationalization of higher education, teacher education, recognition of higher education, education and the 4th industrial revolution, and refugee education.

He has a PhD on Asian and International Studies from City University of Hong Kong, a European Masters in Lifelong Learning: Policy and Management from a consortium composed of the Danish School of Education, Aarhus University, University of Deusto, and the Institute of Education, University of London, and a Masters in Education(Mathematics) from the University of the Philippines.
