Join us on Wednesday 19th April for an in-person roundtable meeting with Andrew Dunnett, Group Director of ESG, Sustainable Business and Foundations at Vodafone. Andrew will lead a discussion on the importance of ESG and private sector’s role in implementing impactful ESG programmes.
Andrew is a member of the Vodafone Group Senior Leadership Team and a Director of the Group External Affairs leadership team based in London. For more than ten years, Andrew has been Director of the Vodafone Foundation and was previously a Ministerial Adviser to the Sustainable Development Unit at the UK Department of Trade and Industry. Andrew has worked in government, public affairs, philanthropy and community investment working with organisations such as the BBC, the Commission for Racial Equality and Thames Water. Andrew is an Associate of Cambridge University Judge Business School where he lectures regularly, a Trustee of the M-Pesa Foundation (Kenya), was appointed by the Prime Minister as a member of the UK Government's Longitude Committee, a Board member of NESTA’s Prizes Committee and a Member of the Steering Group of the Employers Initiative on Domestic Abuse.
Andrew will speak on the Raising of Philanthropy. Over the past ten years there has been a considerable rise in the funds allocated to this sector. Twenty-first century organizations are taking the broader view. They want to make the largest impact, create true social change and solve big problems. However, what does this actually mean in practice?
Environmental, social and governance (ESG), largely represents the criteria that companies use in order for them to function responsibly, as well as to show potential investors that they meet the desired criteria. As public shareholders are increasingly focused on ESG factors, it is important that private companies move with this shift in thinking. In a constantly changing world, it is also important for private sector companies to mitigate future risks, such as social disruptions and climate change disasters by adding a focused narrative on ESG criteria. Throughout the session, Andrew will share his experience as Vodafone Group Director of ESG and views on how ESG metrics should always translate into impact.
