Join us as we host Peter McDermot, the Development Director in Syria for the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) who will present FCDO’s development strategy, programming and pipeline of opportunities in Syria.
According to the FCDO, Syria’s ongoing conflict antagonises countless issues in migration and counterterrorism throughout the wider region. Issues of people smuggling and human rights abuses have also increased due to the max exodus of Syrians fleeing the conflict. FCDO’s investments are aiming to strengthen Syrians’ ability to withstand the impact of the conflict. FCDO’s has extended humanitarian assistance to Syria and has provided host communities with essential services and support.
Going forward, while FCDO aim to resolve the conflict and bring about an inclusive political settlement, humanitarian and developmental assistance is vital in securing the safety and livelihoods of Syrian refugees in the surrounding region.
