Join us as we host Jo Moir, the Development Director in Pakistan for the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) who will present FCDO’s development strategy, programming and pipeline of opportunities in Pakistan.
According to the FCDO, Pakistan's stability has remained an issue also threatening the stability of its surrounding region and the UK. Pakistan’s largest challenges include high poverty rates, limited education access (22.6 million out-of-school children) and high child maternal deaths. Pakistan has a projected population increase of 40 million in the next 15 years, achieving over 7% annual economic growth is essential for job creation. Pakistan faces inequalities based on geography, gender, ethnicity, disability, and faith, including a notable modern slavery issue. Further challenges of natural disasters, extremist threats as well as hosting the second-largest refugee population have also impacted progress.
The FCDO hold 37 active programmes throughout Pakistan, strengthening democracy and government institutions is vital for the state’s sustainable development.
Jo Moir will offer us updates on the current context on the ground as well as insights into FCDO’s development strategy in the country.
