Join us as we host Pippa Bird, the Development Director in Nepal for the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) who will present FCDO’s development strategy, programming and pipeline of opportunities in Nepal.
Although Nepal has remained peaceful over the past year and is unlikely to return to conflict, the country suffers from high levels of inequality and social exclusion. According to the FCDO, Nepal’s largest challenges lay in corruption, poor infrastructure and weak economic policies. However, Nepal has made significant improvements to the health sector and have reduced poverty. Nepal suffers from frequent natural disasters, which have caused loss of over £3 billion in the last 10 years.
The FCDO focus in Nepal has been prioritising the improvement of the country’s governance and security, natural disaster resilience and assisting the marginalised to benefit from economic growth.
