NEW DATE IN DUE COURSE.* Join us on 22nd March 2022 for a discussion with Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Egypt, Gareth Bayley OBE, who was appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt in May 2021. The Ambassador will be joined on the panel by the Department for International Trade Country Director, Development Director,Infrastructure Lead and Education Lead. They will provide a socio-political update on the market, an overview of doing business in Egypt and the associated barriers and risk, and highlighting specific areas of opportunity for UK plc.
The economic relations between Egypt and the United Kingdom have been witnessing significant developments in light of Covid-19, Brexit and Egypt’s economic reform programme. Whilst Egypt’s economic environment has shown resilience in the face of the COVID-19 impacts. The total trade volume between Egypt and the United Kingdom has steadily increased over the last few years. Accompanying this, the Egyptian government have recently launched the“Egypt Takes Off” programme between 2018/2019 and 2021/2022, followed by the newly launched National Structural Reform Programme between 2021/2022 and2023/2024 in order to undertake more structural “second wave” reforms, building on pre-pandemic stabilization's reforms. Such government programmes aim to improve the standard of living and service delivery to all Egyptians.
There are growing opportunities for British companies in the renewable energy market; whilst Egypt’s Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy aims at increasing the share of energy generated from renewable to 42% by 2035.There is also a strong demand for infrastructure projects with the rapid population growth and housing shortages; the sector is expected to grow 70%between 2015 and 2020, to reach $12 billion.
The presenters will share insights into opportunities for UK businesses and share details of some projects at planning stage where there are opportunities to get involved.
