Tajikistan is a mountainous and landlocked country in Central Asia, known for its snowy peaks, glacial lakes and nature reserves. Previously a member of the Soviet Union, Tajikistan became independent in 1991 and has seen its population effectively double since then. The economy is forecast to grow by 7 per cent in 2025 and 5.7 per cent in 2026 on the back of ongoing investments in priority infrastructure. Recently, Tajikistan has seen successful cooperation with international organisations as an important factor in its medium-term growth and is looking to collaborate with international partners in education.
Tajikistan’s vision for education reform is founded on the National Strategy for Education Development of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period until 2030. This highlights the government’s ambition to create an effective education system which provides inclusive and equal opportunities, and contributes to the development of abilities, intellectual development, employment, and improvement of the general well-being of the population. Young people make up 70% of the total population of Tajikistan and there is a high demand for quality education as the government looks to 2030 and beyond. Tajikistan has a primary education enrolment rate of 99% for both girls and boys, a very good teacher-pupil ratio and the same 99% rate for transition to secondary school. There is a strong focus on English and Persian languages across K12 and Higher Education (HE), with STEM subjects a priority area for HE.
The presentations will provide an overview of the Ministry and its functions, as well as a short summary of the government’s education strategy for the last 30 years, challenges and successes. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear about the Ministry’s priorities for capacity development in line with the National Strategy for Education Development 2030, and opportunities for British companies to support in capacity building. This introductory session will provide a platform to meet representatives from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan, and to gain insights into the country’s vision for collaboration in education over the coming years.
The presentation from Mr. Amonullo Faizullozoda will be given in English, after which he will respond to questions in Tajik, translated into English by a colleague.
