Doing Business with the CDB – Education, Social and Trade

British Expertise International in partnership with the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and UK Department for International Trade are pleased to host this year’s ‘Doing Business with the CDB’ series to provide insights on the CDB’s key sector plans and a forward look on their business pipelines and opportunities.

The Caribbean Development Bank is a regional financial institution committed to helping Borrowing Member Countries reduce inequality and incidence of extreme poverty by transforming lives through sustainable, resilient and inclusive development.

In 2021, the CDB repositioned itself to better address the needs of its Borrowing Member Countries (BMCs) against the backdrop of the debilitating effects of the pandemic and the articulation of a new vision for the Region, based on knowledge creation and innovation.

Resilience remains at the core of the Bank’s development thrust. The recent Strategic Plan Update 2022-24 presents a framework of five key pillars – social, environmental, production (formerly economic), financial and institutional. Within this framework, the Bank proposes to refine its engagement in education, social protection, digitalisation, economic diversification and private sector development as key areas in which BMCs will need to reform for sustained growth. These will be underpinned by evidence-based decision-creation and innovation as key facilitators along with governance, gender equality and regional cooperation and integration as cross cutting themes.

CDB’s new vision focuses on driving innovation and knowledge creation as the primary means through which the Region can eliminate poverty, advance standards of living, and deliver equitable prosperity. UK strengths complement CDB project needs in the sectors of infrastructure, energy, environment, education, social and governance.

The second session in this year’s ‘Doing Business with the CDB’ seminar, on 29th November 2022, will cover opportunities in Education, Social and Trade:

• Education and Social Sector
• Trade facilitation

In addition, this session will provide an update on CDB’s strategic direction, and a brief overview of procurement.

A better understanding of CDB’s priority investments and planned interventions will provide UK companies the opportunity to align resources, highlight UK expertise, and effectively prepare to participate in CDB’s projects, ultimately supporting the CDB’s efforts to strengthen resilience in the Caribbean by eliminating poverty, advancing standards of living, and delivering equitable prosperity.
