Join us for an evening of thought-provoking conversation, potential new partnerships and the chance to meet with members of our Climate Change Working Group.
As usual in this series, we will be welcoming one of our members to deliver the keynote speech. The event is also open to non-members, and BEI members are encouraged to invite their partners and collaborators!
Our keynote speaker this time is Nick Lambert, co-founder and director of NLA International, a blue economy solutions company which specialises in the blue economy and tech innovation in associated domains.
Nick majors on the significant value of the blue natural capital possessed by island and coastal states and their opportunity to derive socio-economic benefit from that capital whilst regenerating the marine environment. This can be achieved through the imaginative development of multi-function offshore infrastructure, combining zero emissions power generation with aquaculture, wild fish stock and marine habitat regeneration, ecotourism and pragmatic marine protected areas; informed and actively managed by comprehensive maritime situational awareness.
Implementing the Blue Economy can generate significant socio-economic benefits and tackle climate change by promoting sustainable use of ocean resources. It fosters economic growth through sectors like fisheries, tourism, and renewable energy, while creating jobs and enhancing food security. By investing in marine conservation and sustainable practices, we can protect biodiversity, reduce carbon emissions, and build resilient coastal communities. The Blue Economy encourages innovation and green technologies, driving a shift towards a more sustainable and inclusive economic model that aligns with global efforts to combat climate change and ensure long-term prosperity.
