Join us for an evening of thought-provoking conversation, potential new partnerships and the chance to meet with members of our Climate Change Working Group.
As usual in this series, we will be welcoming one of our members to deliver the keynote speech. The event is also open to non-members, and BEI members are encouraged to invite their partners and collaborators!
Our keynote speaker this time is Mark Harvey, Founder and CEO of Resurgence – a global social enterprise that supports urban climate risk reduction and resilience. Mark is currently leading DARAJA, an award-winning weather, climate and early warning services initiative.
Mark is also a senior advisor to the Risk Informed Early Action Partnership (REAP), a contributor to the World Disasters Report of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and co-founder of the Communicating with Disaster Affected Communities (CDAC) Network.
Alongside Mark’s keynote, we will hold a Special Screening of the first episode of AZEEMA: UNDAUNTED, a powerful and urgent film series that follows five displaced Sudanese weather forecasters and community leaders as they race against time to create a life-saving early warning system for 50 million people in Sudan. Amidst the devastation of war, extreme weather, and the collapse of critical infrastructure, these five heroes work tirelessly to bridge the gap using the innovative DARAJA Sudan Emergency Weather and Early Warning Service.
DARAJA, meaning “bridge” in Swahili and “degree” in Arabic, connects local leaders with climate scientists to deliver clear, accessible forecasts and alerts to vulnerable communities. The film series captures their resilience and determination, shifting the narrative from dry policy reports to compelling visual storytelling that highlights the human urgency of climate action. Funded through the Weather and Climate Information Services (WISER) programme by UK International Development and the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO), AZEEMA underscores the critical role of international collaboration in addressing climate challenges in fragile contexts.
