British Expertise is collaborating with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to deliver an updated analysis on the global economy and Covid-19, focused on the economic impact and trajectory for recovery not just in Asia, but across the globe.
With the pandemic continuing to disrupt the global economy, developing Asia’s GDP is forecast to contract by 0.7% in 2020. Whilst GDP is expected to grow by 6.8% in 2021, this will still leave the region’s economy smaller than projected before Covid-19. The Asian economy remains resilient, but timely policy interventions will be necessary to ensure a healthy recovery. In this webinar ADB experts will share their perspective on the macroeconomic picture globally and in Asia, providing British Expertise members with the opportunity for questions about how the ADB sees the economic situation progressing.
As the pandemic began, Asian governments imposed a number of containment measures which ranged in severity between different countries and economies. This has had a severe impact on business activity, but as containment measures begin to ease in developing Asia the macroeconomics of Covid-19 are becoming increasingly complex.
The path of recovery varies significantly between regions. In South Asia subregional GDP is expected to see a 7.1% rebound in 2021, whereas Central Asian growth in 2021 will remain low at 3.9%. This event will explore what the current and future macroeconomic trends are in relation to Covid-19 in Asia, looking at what this means for business sustainability in the region.
The discussion will aim to answer as many questions as possible - Members are free to email questions in advance.
