Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, South Africa, Mr Dean Macpherson at British Expertise International (BEI) during a visit to the United Kingdom.

London, United Kingdom – British Expertise International (BEI) hosted a roundtable on 14th October with the South African Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Mr Dean Macpherson, bringing together key industry leaders from BEI’s membership across the infrastructure sector working within South Africa, alongside UK and South African government representatives.

The Minister’s visit marks a significant step in strengthening the growing collaboration between the UK and South Africa following the recently developed UK–South Africa G2G Infrastructure Partnership which is accelerating infrastructure delivery in South Africa by addressing systemic barriers and promoting UK expertise in engineering, design and project management.

The roundtable at BEI also included Infrastructure South Africa (ISA), the body responsible for national strategy, planning and delivery, with a presentation from Ms Nombulelo Nyathela, Chief Director: External Relations and Communications at ISA. The discussion shared insights into South Africa’s infrastructure landscape by exploring the progress made in strengthening systems and programme transparency, whilst also connecting key stakeholders across the sector.

British Expertise International (BEI) is a leading business development network for UK-based companies exporting expertise in infrastructure, climate change, education, skills and international development services, particularly to fast-growing, emerging and developing international markets. South Africa is a priority market for BEI and its members as the UK seeks to collaborate on infrastructure projects in the region. The session built on BEI’s engagement in September with the UK Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and Infrastructure South Africa, which outlined current priorities and successes in bilateral cooperation.

As Dr David Landsman OBE, Executive Chair at British Expertise International, says “it was great to hear from Minister McPherson and Ms Nyathela from ISA about South Africa’s clear and ambitious infrastructure strategy and the country’s openness to international participation in transformational projects. Those who have been following South Africa’s plans closely were able to see the real progress that’s been made over the past couple of years. BEI looks forward to continuing to support our members who can make a contribution to South Africa’s development.”
