London, United Kingdom – Aligned with the annual EdTech conference Bett UK, British Expertise International (BEI) brought UK education service providers together with key government and education institutions from around the world to discuss education development and partnership opportunities.
Bett UK, a three-day EdTech conference held on 22-24 January in London this year, is the world's leading annual EdTech exhibition, bringing together over 30,000 educators, policymakers, and industry leaders to showcase, discuss, and adopt innovative technologies, AI, and education solutions. This year, British Expertise International held a series of activities to support its education members, with a key focus on opportunities for education service providers to work in Central and Southeast Asia.
British Expertise International (BEI) is a leading business development network for UK-based companies exporting expertise in infrastructure, climate change, education, skills and international development services, particularly to fast-growing, emerging and developing international markets. BEI’s activities around Bett included discussions with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education of Indonesia and the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) Secretariat.
Central Asia, a priority market for UK education providers, was also a key focus. BEI brought together several members and a delegation from Kazakhstan to discuss the growing collaboration between the UK and Kazakhstan in education. This included a roundtable discussing opportunities for AI integration and co-investment in research facilities and universities, held on 19th January in Westminster, at which H.E. Sally Axworthy, His Majesty’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan, and Mr Ruslan Karabulov, Chargé d'Affaires of the Republic of Kazakhstan, participated.
Following this, three Memoranda of Understanding were signed at a reception, including BEI member Efekta and the Satbayev University; Suleyman Demirel University (SDU) and London Birkbeck; and the Kazakh Ministry of Higher Education and Apprentify. A wider reception followed, which included delegates from across Central Asia and members of the diplomatic corps in London. These initiatives follow the success of a BEI-led trade mission to Kazakhstan in March 2025, which resulted in a number of MoUs being signed between UK education providers and Kazakh institutions.
Building on BEI’s longstanding engagement with international education stakeholders during key conferences in London, discussions will continue during the Education World Forum in May. Dr David Landsman OBE, Executive Chair at BEI, said: “We see a huge appetite in the world’s fastest-growing markets for British expertise in the latest education innovations. It’s great for BEI to help bring Ministries, universities, and commercial partners together with the best of British know-how and technology, and especially to see the results of this collaboration every time a new MOU is signed. We look forward to supporting many more opportunities, playing our role in the UK’s international education strategy and to fostering more partnerships during the Education World Forum in May this year.”
