Education is integral to promoting positive climate action as it aids people in understanding the impacts of the climate crisis and how to address them. Organisations delivering international development programming in education must consider the current and future impacts of climate change. This needs to be reflected in immediate programming (for example, in improving access) as well as curriculum development more broadly.

On Wednesday 11th October at10:00-11:30 BST, join us as we discuss the intersection of Climate Change and Education in international development.
The BEI ‘Intersections with Climate Change’ event series brings a focus on the intersections of climate change remediation and adaptation with other development priorities. Each event provides a platform for dialogue between experts and aims to highlight the issues and potential solutions, providing a platform for members and their key stakeholders to showcase the impact they are making and the remedies they are developing for these issues.
Climate change continues to pose negative effects on the adaptive capacity of climate-vulnerable populations across the globe. In order to safeguard against this, it is necessary to provide communities with the tools needed to combat the climate crisis. Education is integral to promoting positive climate action as it aids people in understanding the impacts of the climate crisis and how to address them. This can empower communities with the knowledge and skills to improve climate resilience.
The importance of this key intersection is recognised globally, as the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Paris Agreement and the associated Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) agenda call on governments to educate, empower and engage all stakeholders and major groups on policies and actions relating to climate change.
Organisations delivering international development programming in education must consider the current and future impacts of climate change. This needs to be reflected in immediate programming (for example, in improving access) as well as curriculum development more broadly, to ensure futureproofing and sustainable development, supporting policymakers to think holistically about the whole curriculum and how this will influence future behaviour and skills development.
Our panel will showcase how they are adaptingtheir approaches in the intersection of education with climate change. Asusual, we look forward to discussion and Q&A with the audience in thesecond half of the session.
