Support for Rural Road Maintenance in Vietnam
Country/Region

Project Summary
Development of rural road maintenance management plans and provision of training as needed.
Project Description
WSP IMC was engaged by the Department for International Development, from September 2000 to January 2006, to work on the Second Rural Transport Project in Vietnam. Our challenge was to establish a 'maintenance culture' and to help the authorities responsible for managing and maintaining the rural road network in 43 of Vietnam's 64 provinces.
We helped the provinces develop and refine their rural road maintenance management plans and we provided training as needed. Our work supported the Government of Vietnam's poverty reduction programme in the rural areas; giving rural communities improved access to markets, off-farm economic opportunities and social services.
For this project WSP International Managment Consultants were Highly Commended in the Large Consultancy (B) category of the British Expertise International Awards.
