Joint Rivers Management Programme
Country/Region
Project Summary
This EU funded, ambitious project sought to test the principles of the Water Framework Directive in four widespread, trans-boundary river basins covering seven countries.
Project Description
MOTT MacDONALD
Mott MacDonald introduced modern river basin management principles into Russia and the NIS starting in St Petersburg over a decade ago and culminating in the Joint River Management Programme. This EU funded, ambitious project sought to test the principles of the Water Framework Directive in four widespread, trans-boundary river basins covering seven countries.
Facilitated workshops brought together the diverse stakeholders, and encouraged joint solutions and actions to improve water management. A plan for the Pipryat River has become a key reference work ensuring that the work continues after the project ended.
| Richard Cullen led the team responsible for this programme. For this project in particular he was a finalist in the Individual category of the British Expertise International Awards 2006. | ![]() |
