Project Description
LANDELL MILLS LIMITED
The SRISP project, funded by the UK's DFID, addressed key post-privatisation challenges faced by rural Moldovans, thereby reducing rural poverty and increasing incomes.
Over 1200 new businesses were created which generated over 6000 new jobs, and enabled $16m of new investments, largely from commercial long-term credit sources.
Access to seasonal credit through 107 new Savings and Credit Associations enabled 22,000 people to access much needed finance.
New income-raising knowledge and technologies facilitated the significant improvement of living standards.
Civil society was strengthened enabling many communities to reintroduce support services in partnership with local administrations.
In addition, new, more efficient ways of resolving disputes were introduced which protected the legal rights of citizens to privatised land and property.
For this project Landell Mills won the Small Consultancy (B) category of the British Expertise International Awards 2006.
