Country/Region
Project Summary
Davis Langdon was engaged to provide Capital and Lifecycle Cost and Facilities Management Advice to the NHS Trust
Project Description
A large PFI project worth £1bn. It involves the redevelopment of the Royal London Hospital at Whitechapel (Acute hospital) and St Bartholomews Hospital (Cancer and cardiac hospital).
The aim of the scheme is to modernise and rationalise health care on two hospital sites.
THE PROJECT
The works are a combination of refurbishment and new build with a total floor area in excess of 250,000 m2. The construction period is from April 2006 until 2014 with both hospitals remaining open during the period of work. The new build will be the first phase of construction followed by the refurbishment.
The main challenges prior to Financial Close were achieving an affordable scheme, GLA planning conditions, programming construction work to ensure health care services are maintained, work associated with listed buildings, asbestos, archaeological issues, condition surveys and interim FM services.
The main challenge since Financial Close is the resolution of the descoping work required to ensure an affordable scheme.
