EMERGING MARKETS GROUP (EMG) LIMITED
3K&A created new jobs and gave business to local construction, architecture, supply and transport companies. Y.Poku, the founder and a local businessman trading imports for years, aspired to a profitable business that helps the poor. The DFID Ghana Business Links Challenge Fund (G-BLCF), managed by EMG, provided a catalyst for the ideas of Poku and a practical implementation framework.
The G-BLCF helped Poku find partners with international expertise and 3K&A Industries Ghana built successful backward linkages with soybean farmers and a processing plant.
3K&A has outperformed its targets: introducing more new products, capturing greater market share and significantly increasing small-holder incomes joining the scheme. It also supports an educational scheme in the rural areas.
For this project the Emerging Markets Group was highly commended in the British Expertise International Awards 2007/8.
