Festival Waterfront Centre forms the centrepiece of Dubai Festival City with 320,000 m2 of retail, dining, entertainment and car parking.
Hyder Consulting were appointed by Dubai Festival City LLC for geotechnical investigation; structural design; MEP design and traffic planning.
The structural design of Festival Waterfront Centre features a number of innovative design solutions including:
- 800m by 300m crescent shaped basement structure without movement joints, reducing long term maintenance concerns below the water table next to Dubai Creek
- Waterproof concrete utilised for external basement envelope
- Innovative substructure V columns to optimise ground floor transfer structure
- Minimisation of superstructure movement joints
For this project Hyder Consulting plc was a finalist in the British Expertise International Awards 2007/8.
