BELMONT MANAGEMENT CONSULTANTS LIMITED
Belmont Management Consultants Ltd is operating at both micro and national levels to develop an area that is one of the poorest in Romania, yet one of the most important natural and cultural landscapes in Europe.
The ADEPT project is innovative in that it promotes a commercial approach that gives long term viability to the conservation of the area. ADEPT integrates conservation and rural development, links economic and social benefits with biodiversity conservation, and raises local capacity for good management.
The ADEPT project is unique in that it is funded by a public private partnership (first in Romania) and enjoys a very high level of support from national, regional and local government and in the communities it serves.

For his work on this project Jim Turnbull, Managing Director of Belmont Management Consultants Ltd, was highly commended in the Individual category of the British Expertise International Awards, 2006. The project itself was a finalist in the Small Consultancy (B) category. |

Jim founded the ADEPT Foundation, the Romanian registered charity through which the Agricultural Development & Environmental Protection in Transylvania (ADEPT) project is implemented in an area of 90,000 ha, with a population of 25,000 people. He has encouraged a business approach to development, and has been responsible for this small pilot project having an impact on national policies, and for establishing positive links between the NGO, Commercial and Government sectors. Through this innovative approach he attracted Orange Romania's sponsorship under its Corporate Social Responsibility programme, the first major corporate sponsorship of an environmental project in Romania, and key to securing Darwin Initiative funding from DEFRA.
