Formed in 1973 and based in London, UME won its first major healthcare management contract in the Middle East in 1977. Since that time UME has managed, developed, commissioned and operated hospitals and healthcare projects in the UK, Middle East, Far East and many other countries, and received the Queen's Award for Export Achievement.

UME undertakes hospital feasibilities, operational reviews of existing hospitals, health planning, equipping services, efficiency studies particularly related to the use of automation etc.

UME is a major participant and investor in the UK's Private Finance Initiative in healthcare.
