Beckett Rankine is the specialist marine consulting engineering practice in the UK with broad experience in the development of ports around the world. We design with flair, creating innovative solutions to maximize opportunities for our clients.

The mainstream of Beckett Rankine's activities are:

  • Creation of strategies for port development;
  • Preparation of port masterplans;
  • Design and project supervision of new port and marine facilities;
  • Designs for refurbishment and rehabilitation of ports and harbours;
  • Coastal defence;
  • Floating structures;
  • Urban regeneration in marine areas;
  • Design of marine leisure facilities.

The history of Beckett Rankine dates back for over a hundred years with the same two families leading the firm since 1888. The firm was incorporated under the present name in 1985.

As a truly independent firm, our advice is not affected by any commercial pressure. Our work is carried out by technical evaluation and appraisal of initial proposals to prepare schemes that give optimum benefit to the Client. Using free and lateral thinking we develop innovative concepts in cases where this benefits our Clients.

To ensure high standards and continuity from inception through to final completion all projects are controlled on a day-to-day basis by Gordon Rankine or Tim Beckett. As directors of the firm they have a combined experience of over fifty years in designing and project managing port, harbour and marine development. They are supported by a technically qualified team of in-house engineers and external advisers who have extensive experience covering a wide range of port operations, planning, construction, economics and shipping. This flexible approach enables us to build our project teams to include selected specialists who are most suited to develop specific critical aspects of the project.
