BACTEC International Limited was formed in 1991 in response to the perceived capability gap for the clearance of explosive ordnance from ranges, former military training areas, mines/minefields and conflict/post-conflict situations.
BACTEC's services cover a wide range of subjects from mines awareness, mines survey (Levels 1, 2 and 3), training of mine clearers, beach survey and clearance to threat assessment, non intrusive and intrusive survey and investigation/clearance in support of the construction industry.
Additionally BACTEC provides training for both ex-pat and local personnel and carries out equipment evaluation, design and development.
Explosive ordnance survey and clearance are carried out both on land and underwater by fully qualified and experienced staff.
The company is registered to ISO 9001 by LRQA.
ACTIVITIES
The scope of work of the company covers:
- Post conflict clearance operations on behalf of UN, EC, WB and international/national agencies.
- Mine clearance and survey and chemical ammunition disposal.
- Support to the civilian construction industry.
- Threat assessments and ordnance survey and clearance both on land and underwater.
- Explosive ordnance related consultancy, preparation of technical data bases and technical instructions.
- Equipment design and development.
- Training of both expat and local personnel as EOD /mine clearance operators.
TYPICAL PROJECTS
GREAT BRITAIN - Underwater and land survey and clearance of the formal Naval base at Portland on behalf of UK MOD.
Investigation of reported UXBs for local authorities and the resultant location of 8 UXB on large development projects. Support to civil construction projects, geotechnical analysis, site safety and awareness briefings, explosive ordnance survey and clearance.
Intrusive survey of over 12ha on various sites to establish the areas were clear of possible UXB.
Multi sensor survey of rivers and docks to identify possible UXO.
ANGOLA - UN Mine Action Programme Manager to set up and establish the UN Mine Action Centre.
AZERBAIJAN - Level One survey to identify mines/ordnance contaminated areas for UN.
BELGIUM - Survey and clearance of beach both on land and underwater.
BOSNIA - Provision of 9 Rapid Response EOD Teams for the EC/UN.
CZECH REPUBLIC - Consultancy services to the Czech MOD.
FORMER EAST GERMANY - Consultancy in respect of former military training areas.
KUWAIT - Prime consultant for the clearance of some 2,500 sq km of the country of mines and ordnance, in the city centre, oil fields and beaches.
MOZAMBIQUE - Consultancy work in respect of the mines clearance programme.
POLAND - Threat assessment prior to the building of a power station.
SAUDI ARABIA - Consultancy services in respect of ordnance and mine clearance.
SUDAN - Provision of consultancy services in respect of mine clearance operations.
TURKEY - Consultancy services to the Turkish MOD on range clearance.
YEMEN - Provision of the land mines specialist for the UN to coordinate the clearance operation following the internal conflict. Underwater survey and clearance of Aden Harbour for Aden Free Zone Development Project. Land EO survey and clearance for the Aden Free Zone Development Project.
ZIMBABWE - Provision of QA services to the EC for the clearance of 370km of minefield.
