ACTIVITIES
Architecture
Shaping the world around us, AECOM's architects and interior designers are creating award-winning buildings that enhance our towns and cities. From educational and cultural establishments to transportation and leisure facilities, all of our buildings seek a balance between form and function, combining breathtaking aesthetics with real efficiency.
Our team of experts works to ensure that every building is energy and water efficient, that natural materials are used with care, and that every site is developed to its fullest potential. Around the world, our projects are celebrated for their environmental, economic, and social sustainability.
Building engineering
We are known internationally for our creative, sustainable and holistic design approach which, from the outset, embraces low-carbon and economic operational performance, along with understanding how any building is an essential facility designed ultimately to enable client organisations to flourish worldwide.
Collaborating across a wide range of building design skills, and sharing knowledge and a passion for a sustainable built environment through our international network of offices, Building Engineering at AECOM brings leading-edge thinking to every local design challenge.
Design and Planning
A leader in making distinctive and beautiful places, Design + Planning embraces complexity and works at all scales. While rooted in masterplanning and landscape architecture, our practice also encompasses design, planning, economic development, social and cultural consultancy and environmental services.
From regenerating cities and creating new communities to managing whole landscapes and designing inspiring public spaces, there are considerable challenges in shaping the world for the future. Along with the most pressing issues of climate change, population growth and pressure on the world's natural resources, every challenge also presents a range of opportunities.
Design Build (process design and project delivery)
With clients drawn from the private and public sectors in the water, wastewater and environmental markets, we offer a turnkey package that encompasses everything from preliminary project planning to long-term operations and maintenance.
Flexible, knowledge-driven and skilled in creative problem-solving, we answer the demands of the design, engineering and construction market sectors. As a single-source provider, we bring a level of continuity, accountability and consistency to managing projects that is simply not possible with the multi-vendor process. Supported by our global parent company, we are able to draw on a vast bank of experience and resources for any project, anywhere in the world.
Economics
Providing applied economic analysis and strategic planning services, we work with private clients, government agencies, educational institutions and non-profit organisations. We help clients understand their markets, assess risks, and clarify the uncertainties in any development initiative, business strategy, or public policy initiative. Pulling ideas into focus, and sharpening the boundaries of a preliminary plan or concept, we understand our client's vision, whatever the scope, objective, or location, and address challenges through creative thinking and structured analysis.
We have made important contributions to some of the world's most innovative and successful development projects, visitor attractions, urban plans, and economic policy evaluations. Our services are in three main areas: Leisure and Entertainment, Hotels and Resorts, and Economic Planning and Real Estate.
Energy
We offer expertise in energy planning, environmental and economics, energy efficiency and carbon management, hydropower and dams, thermal and nuclear, wind and solar, and transmission and distribution. Our recent experience of the strategic assessment of marine energy proposals, has positioned us as a leader in the field. Uniquely to AECOM, we have the capability to consider waste to energy projects on an EPC basis in Europe.
We make significant contributions to the task of deriving energy policy in Europe, particularly related to buildings, integrated and development scale energy efficiency. We developed a comprehensible track record in renewable energy generation, pre-planning and environmental assessment, and post planning project delivery.
Environment
AECOM has proven success in helping public- and private-sector customers solve challenges in air, water and land quality, waste management and environmental planning, compliance and cleanup. For assistance with assuring regulatory compliance, developing pro-active environmental management programs, siting a treatment, storage or disposal facility or cleaning up a contaminated property or waterway, AECOM offers the environmental expertise to achieve strategic goals.
Our clients include industrial and commercial companies; government agencies (municipal, regional and national), institutions, and public and private utilities. They have challenged us to resolve some of the world's toughest environmental problems, and we've delivered the required results at every stage of the projects.
Government
We provide a broad range of services in: public policy and economic institutions; business climate and trade competitiveness; democracy and governance; humanitarian response and stabilization; industrial and commercial area development; and water, environment and energy.
Our work in Europe spans ten countries and over 15 years. With our partners in the public and private sectors, we have supported post-Soviet transitions throughout Central and Eastern Europe and the Caucasus. We have designed and implemented development initiatives that launched these countries on the course to sustained growth and an improved quality of life. We have helped to reform the social protection system in Armenia, facilitate the development of free economic zones in Serbia, and establish effective local government institutions in Bosnia, Romania, Kosovo and Serbia.

Transportation
Travel by land, sea or air, and you will encounter transportation systems and facilities that AECOM professionals have managed, planned, engineered and designed. Whether a major bridge in Scotland, the Crossrail Transit Project in London, or the Copenhagen Metro in Denmark – they are all examples of AECOM's award-winning transportation work in Europe.
As populations grow, so do demands for safe, expedient, cost-effective methods of transportation. AECOM delivers comprehensive services from creation to completion and beyond. We build on our extensive knowledge to plan, design, and manage transportation systems as well as restore and replace aging infrastructure. Our understanding of today's transportation industry will move our communities into the future – safely and reliably.
Water
We understand that water is fundamental to human life and our professionals make that possible in even the toughest situations. For example, on the Victorian Mains Replacement programme in central London, we are designing hundreds of kilometres of water main replacements in one of the world's most congested urban settings. This essential work will solve the unsustainable levels of leakage from London's ageing water infrastructure, whilst minimising disruption to water customers, local people and businesses, traffic, other utilities' infrastructure and the multitude of external stakeholders and interested parties.
